WHAT IS CARB-P2 CERTIFICATE?
Most Vietnamese customers when placing furniture are mainly interested in 3 main factors, the first one is price (where cheap but top priority), next is the aesthetic factor (cheap but right). beautiful) and finally the durability (use as long as possible) but forget about an important factor that only applies to industrial product lines, namely the plywood, MDF and HDF boards.
Did you know that Western countries ranked the above factors after one main factor that is that industrial boards must not be toxic to human health, are safe and environmentally friendly, then take into account the factors cheap – durable – beautiful. To meet that CARB-P2 certification was born by the US certification and they are globally valuable.
Why should industrial boards meet CARB-P2 standards?
As it is known, in the industry especially the Food and Wood processing industries, Formaldehyde (also known as preservative) is an indispensable chemical used. However, if not strictly controlled below the permitted level, in each household’s environment, the residual formaldehyde from food, furniture (tables, chairs, beds, cabinets …) resonates with each other creates a toxic gas stream in the living space; In the immediate future, it will cause health damage, long-term can cause respiratory diseases, tumors and cancer diseases.
Be a wise consumer to not bring toxic substances into living spaces that damage your health and your family members when choosing furniture industry lines. Specifically, the industrial boards you need to be concerned about the origin of the problem (Ask where the board is purchased from? Should avoid the suppliers of boards from China or Vietnam using Chinese technology) ); next is the CARB-P2 certified board? The names of customer boards need to remember:
- FMC board uses quite a lot of Formaldehyde
- So is MDF and HDF board
- Plywood, also known as plywood

WHAT IS CARB-P2 STANDARD?
On April 26, 2007, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved an emission control instruction (ATCM); with the goal of reducing formaldehyde emissions from the above-mentioned industrial wood products. The orders in ATCM place different roles and obligations to industrial manufacturers; distributors, importers, manufacturers, as well as retailers apply.
The ATCM Regulation consists of two stages of an industrial board product that meets emissions standards; and requires good control of the parameters of production quality management and standard formaldehyde emissions for compliance. To ensure compliance with ATCM standards, manufacturers must be certified by a third party (TPC) that is approved by CARB. This involves independent emissions testing of boards and factory audits in manufacturing processes for major factories in California, USA. Since then the CARB-P2 standard has been widely applied and even the boards produced in Vietnam that want to export to the US market must have this certificate to be allowed to import.
Depending on the geographical area, there will be a third party authorized to issue CARB-P2, in which Vietnamese companies often apply for CARB-P2 at authorized units in Singapore or Hong Kong. Applications are made once a year on a cyclical basis, mainly to send samples or actual checks at the factory. Therefore, each certificate form may have a difference but there must be a line “… .recognizes the following mill’s production requirements to meet all requirements established in Section 93120.2, title 17, California Code of Regulations, Final Regulation Order, Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products (ATCM) … “and get the code of that 3rd unit.
Epilogue:
Today, industrial boards manufacturing companies around the world in which chip makers in Vietnam; are all certified CARB-P2. Besides, many manufacturers of MDF or HDF board floating in Vietnam and imported mainly from China do not meet CARB-P2 standards, so the price is very low, this is a little benefit, but in the long term, the image great influence on consumers’ health.
